BY BUS: Each day more than 40 express buses make the 2.5-hour trip from the capital, departing from Tallinn's bus station (bussijaam). The ride costs about 125-160 EEK. See www.bussireisid.ee.
BY CAR: Just head out of town on Tartu mnt. and once you get past the airport, it's a straight road all the way down.
BY PLANE: There are now international flights arriving in Tartu from both Riga and Stockholm at Tartu's airport. See www.tartu-airport.ee
BY TRAIN: : Trains to Tartu are scarce, with only four of them rolling in from Tallinn each day. Rides take either two hours. Starting in 2010 you'll be able to take the train to and from Valga, which lies on the Latvian border. See www.edel.ee.
