Municipal Environmental Management Systems – Experiences with EMAS, MEA and ecoBUDGET in the Baltic Sea Region UBC Workshop 15-16 November 2002 in Rostock |

Dear Collegues,
Agenda 21 is a strategic priority for the Union of the Baltic Cities. The World Summit in Johannesburg confirmed the aim of sustainable development and demanded more activities also in the field of environmental management systems. The UBC and the city of Rostock - as well as many other member cities - have a good track of experience in this field. By sharing experiences and best practises in international meetings we can together make our contribution to the implementation of Agenda 21 even stronger! The present Workshop is a follow-up event of the already concluded project “Implementation of EMAS in the City Administration, Local Enterprises and Federal Governments in the Region of Rostock”. Many new and valuable aspects arose from it, worth to be discussed in a wider circle of experts. At the same time, the workshop builds basis for the new UBC Agenda 21 project EMAS Peer Review for Cities. This project, co-ordinated by the UBC Commission on Environment, is a large European initiative including 16 cities and several other partners, co-funded by the EU DG Environment. Ph.D.Project Leader
