Dear Madam/Sir,

The Commission on Culture (CoC) of the UBC wishes to invite representatives from the field of culture from all member cities to participate in the seventh CoC working session to be held in Szczecin on 2-5 October 2003.

The purpose of this session is to elect a new CoC Board, the Board's election

of its chairman and vice chairman, and a discussion about the functions of the Board, and the strategy and activities of the CoC in the forthcoming years.

Furthermore, we would like to invite you to discuss how contemporary art exists in social consciousness and the role that museums, galleries and artists can play in creating better relations with their audience.

The session is timed to coincide with the opening of the V Baltic Biennial of Contemporary Art “Extra Strong-Super Light”, which will be held in Szczecin. Also, participants are invited for a one-day trip to Art Forum Berlin in Berlin on 5 October.

The session also is open for the discussion of culture-related issues. If cities wish to propose topics for discussion, they are requested to forward this information to the UBC Secretatriat so that they may be included on the session agenda.

Please find enclosed the program, application form and general rules of the CoC Board election.

Cities wishing to be represented in the CoC Board are kindly requested to send their application to the CoC Secretariat in Szczecin by the 2nd of September 2003.

We hope to see you in Szczecin in October!

Sławomir Szafrański
