EnvCom Secretariat, March 2003

Tea.jpg (4523 bytes) Dear UBC Friend,

Spring Greeting from the EnvCom! The year has started busily with new project activities. One of them is the EMAS Peer Review for Cities - a large European project for developing environmental management in cities.

The EnvCom Secretariat is coordinating the project and nine UBC member cities are involved with a task to start and extend the EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) in their own organisations. EMAS will be here a big help and support to built the management system of the local authority in order to ensure the continuous improvement of the authority's performance as well as the involvement of employees and local communities.

The whole project involves 16 cities and is being carried out in partnership with Eurocities and University of West England. Co-funding has been received from the European Commission DG Environment. The project lasts until end of November 2004. You can read more about it in here and/or contact myself for further discussion.

Please, also mark in your calender the date of 22 May - that is when the next UBC EnvCom and Agenda 21 Working Group meeting will be held in in Kaunas on the occasion of TBestC Launch Seminar. You are Cordially welcome to both events! More information is available from the EnvCom Secretariat and here.

Looking forward to further discussions,

Best Regards,
Tea Nõmmann
Project Co-ordinator
