- The heart of our network are active people from active cities -

Within the UBC Agenda 21 Action Program, 11 projects have been carried out so far, and the good pace is continuing! The UBC EnvCom Secretariat is co-ordinating the program, and several projects are being led by member cities as LEAD CITIES. Active project leaders so far have been for example Lübeck, Nacka, Municipality of Gotland, Kalmar, Lahti/BLA21F, and ECAT Lithuania, as well as several cities in the MEA and BCP projects.

Still the EnvCom also plays an important role as co-ordinator of many projects, and we are currently involved in many interesting and challenging projects - all with the aim of helping and co-operating with our member cities. A large new project on environmental management systems, EMAS Peer Review for Cities, has started. This project will contribute to the EMAS process in 16 cities, of which eight will be from the EU Accession Countries. The project will be carried out with Eurocities, University of West England and other partners, and it also builds on the success of the earlier implemented Municipal Environmental Auditing (MEA) Projects.

Also, for example, two more recently finished projects: 'the Best City Practises (BCP)' and 'Success Factors (SUFA)' were both successes both in terms of participation and results. In BCP five city pairs exchanged knowledge and know-how by bencmarking good practises. SUFA concentrated on Success Factors in Local Environmental Policy for Local Agenda 21 and EU Enlargement in the Baltic Sea Region. It consisted of four different components, which together served ministerial level policy-makers as well as local Agenda 21 co-ordinators of cities.

Currently under preparation is an enlargement of the Sustainable Harbour Policy Project (Sustainable Baltic Ports, Interreg III B), as well as a new Local Agenda 21 Project for Central and Eastern Europe. If you are interested in these topics, you are most welcome to contact the EnvCom Secretariat. The starts of these projects may take place during 2003, depending on external funding decisions.

Below you can find links to our projects, introduced in reverse chronological order. The starting year is shown in brackets. If you would like to know more about the projects please contact the EnvCom Secretariat. To see a summary of all implemented projects within the UBC Agenda 21 Action Program, please, click here.
