The UBC Commission on Environment is the UBC body for the environmental and Agenda 21 co-operation. Commission on Environment is open to participation of all member cities. Also many partner organisations are regularly present at the meetings. The aim of this co-operation is to serve the cities in sustainable development and environmental management. This is part of the main goal of the UBC, which is to contribute to democratic, social, economic and environmentally friendly development in the Baltic Sea Region. The policy document guiding the sustainable development co-operation of the UBC is the Agenda 21 Action Programme 2004-2009 – Roadmap for Sustainable Baltic Cities, approved by the General Assembly, and the unit responsible for co-ordination is the Environment and Sustainable Development Secretariat.
