The festival is widely regarded as one of the most influential and largest festival with an Arabic cinema focus and offers a platform for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab film industries. MAFF is the largest festival with an Arabic cinema focus outside the Arab world.
The festival was initiated through a common need in Malmo and Sweden – a grassroots striving for an Arabic cultural platform with the film as the binding element. MAFF is an intercultural meeting place for discourse and a bridge-building catalyst between people and cultures. The festival was initiated and founded in 2011 by festival’s general manager and artistic director Mouhamad Keblawi.
