A new nature trail, open to everyone, was opened in St. Petersburg in September 1997 in connection with the Annual St. Petersburg Environment Week. This one- kilometre long trail is located in Tauria Park and it has nine information boards.

Tauria Park, initially established between 1773 and 1793, is one of the most beautiful and popular parks in St. Petersburg. Its 24 hectares contain a total of 3168 trees, 13544 shrubs and a multitude of birds and other animals!

The nine boards inform visitors about bird life, dogs in the city, bats, lichens and the role of trees in cleaning the air, etc. The park thereby makes a very practical contribution to environmental education in St. Petersburg. Above all, however, the park offers people a peaceful resting place in the hectic life of the city. It is a place to meet "living nature" within an urban setting.

The nature trail has been built collaboratively by: City of St. Petersburg, Tauria Park Authorities, Finnish Ministry of the Environment, Centre of the Environment City of Helsinki and Environmental Protection Office, City of Turku
