The municipality has, in close cooperation with private contractors and consultants, developed a detailed model for sewer renovation in large urban areas. This model simplifies urban sewer renovation, increases the efficiency of the project and provides better financial control over the same guaranteeing renovation quality.
"No-Dig" technique - renovation without digging
Using this model, it is possible to renovate the entire sewer system in urban quarters in a single operation, through the extensive use of the latest "No-Dig" renovation techniques. This means relining the old pipelines with plastic liners inserted in a flexible state and then cured. Moreover, the Aarhus model makes considerable use of modern communication technology such as video for the registration of pipeline condition and special computer programmes for planning.
Opportunity of sharing experiences
An important element in the Aarhus model is the demand for prior qualification of the main contractors involved in the project. This provides the municipal authorities with a guarantee that the work agreed on will be carried out in a competent manner.The municipality's Environmental Department is experienced in matters related to planning and execution of the described renovation projects, choice of contractors and consultants, continuous surveillance over the state of the pipelines and so on.
