Environment? - This is Tampere

The City of Tampere in Finland has published an interesting and informative brochure on environmental protection in the city. Tampere, the largest inland town in Scandinavia - population 180,000 and 270,000 with surroundings - has been the industrial power house of Finland for over 200 years. Even today, it is a major industrial area with approximately 9,000 enterprises.

The booklet covers all areas of environmetal protection from the general environmental policy of Tampere to air pollution, waste, urban noise pollution, etc. The Environmental Protection Department in Tampere has developed a new and modified Environment Management System (EMS), which is among the first aimed for the public sector.
