The oldest art in KODE's collections tells fascinating stories about Europe and Norway.Follow the city's art collection through several centuries of history.

Immerse yourself in magnificent depictions of Norway's mountains and fjords, or freshen up your historical knowledge of everyday peasants life in the 1800s and 1900s. Experience Netherlandish taverns and life amongst ordinary people, or study emotive religious motifs and stately portraiture.

Norwegian 'golden age' painters such as Christian Krohg, Harriet Backer and Fritz Thaulow are represented with several works. You can find realistic depictions of the poorer areas of Kristiania (Oslo) and of brisk business at Bergen's fish market. A separate section is devoted to the master J.C. Dahl and his students.
