URBACT project Mentors of European Metropolises
The Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area association looks for partners to the project Mentors of European Metropolises in the framework of URBACT.
The Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area is an association that gathers 57 municipalities located in the Pomorskie Region with 1,5 mln inhabitants. The work of the Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area is organized around implementing specific strategies (the Integrated Territorial Investments Strategy and Strategy 2030) and projects in fields of: social development (integration and inclusion), culture, economic development, clean energy, environment, transport and mobility, urban renewal and regeneration, joint purchases of goods and services, spatial planning. A key element of the cooperation is the exchange of experience and good practice in the projects carried out by local governments, their agendas and units.
Since February 2014, the Gdansk-Gdynia Sopot Metropolitan Area also functions as the Intermediate Body for Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) with a portfolio of 133 projects and 260 mln euro EU contribution.
Thanks to the variety of the municipalities gathered in the Metropolitan Area as well as project partners the assocation can address and face different challenges and implement projects based on strategies in a wide range.
The association is searching for other metropolitan areas, sharing similar or the same aims, wanting to achieve more efficiency and help create a real metropolitan network of competences
Main policy issue to be addressed in relation to the selected topics:
As part of the Integrated Territorial Investments (ITI) Strategy and Strategy 2030 implementation, the needs of experience exchange, knowledge and good practices sharing, problem-solving and addressing challenges from the level of partnership management and individual stages of the ITI Strategy implementation have been identified within the Gdansk-Gdynia-Sopot Metropolitan Area. The assocition cooperates with people highly specialized in particular topics who often do not have the possibility to share their experience/knowledge with others, as they are in different departments or even institutions. In order to strengthen the metropolitan area management the association wants to create ways of sharing these resources, especially with those who are not afraid of competition, deal well with the common good, when confronted with project type thinking, dealing with rules and regulations in such a way as to get the maximum added value out of all resources. They must become metropolitan mentors, helping others in difficult management situations, at the same time being enabled to do so by the metropolitan authorities themselves. Aims: • build and strengthen the spirit of solidarity and self-help between European Metropolises in solving management-related and strategy implementation issues • create a pool of experts/practitioners at the same time and help them find their European counterparts and use their competencies • to support the mentors in their self-development capacity by trainings, study tours etc.
